Call for proposals 2019

Call identifier: H2020-BBI-JTI-2019

The Bio-based Industries Joint Undertaking (BBI JU) is responsible for the implementation of open Call for proposals for Research and Innovation Actions (RIAs), Innovation Actions (IAs - DEMOs and FLAGs) and Coordination and Support Actions (CSAs), in line with the Horizon 2020 rules for participation.

Proposals evaluation

A total of 184 proposals were submitted in response to the Call for proposals 2019.

The number of proposals for each type of action is shown below:

  • CSA - total 13 proposals
  • RIA - total 104 proposals
  • IA - DEMO - total 58 proposals
  • IA - FLAG - total 9 proposals

The evaluation of the proposals will start in September and be finalised in November 2019.

Applicants will be informed about the outcome of the evaluations by the end of 2019 (indicative timing).

The successful proposals will go through the Grant Agreement Preparation (GAP) phase and the deadline for the Grant Agreement signature is 4 May 2020.

HEARINGS

As part of the panel review, hearings will be organised for all submitted flagship proposals, as established in BBI JU's Annual Work Plan 2019 to:

  • clarify the proposals and help the panel establish their final assessment and scores

or

  • improve the experts' understanding of the proposals

Invitations to the hearings will be sent to the flagship coordinators with all the relevant details during September.

According to the evaluation criteria for Innovation Actions (IAs) and more specifically in the context of the criterion 'Quality and efficiency of the implementation', the experts could request additional technical explanations/clarifications for the two following evaluation sub-criteria:

  • Soundness of the business case and business plan
  • Readiness of the technology for the implementation of the pilot phase, demonstration or flagship (TRL). Applicants should demonstrate the readiness of the technology for the implementation of the pilot phase. In particular, the flagships applicants must demonstrate that by the time of the submission of their application, they have been operating relative demonstration scale plants at a significant production capacity.

Hearings will not be used to permit modifications to proposals.

The original submitted proposal remains the basis for final evaluation throughout.
