Ecomondo is the leading Euro-Mediterranean area green and circular economy expo: an international event with an innovative format that brings together all sectors of the circular economy in a single platform: from material and energy recovery to sustainable development.
Ecomondo 2018 will present the national, European and international scene with new legislative priorities, in regard to research and innovation, training on circular economy together with the latest processes/plants 4.0, demonstrating the end products given by their implementation at the industrial level on cities and territories. With support from industrial associations, government institutions, research bodies, the European Commission, OCSE, etc, Ecomondo 2018 will present the newest updates, necessities, challenges and opportunities regarding reuse and valorisation of organic and no-organic waste, alternative raw materials and industrial eco-design, reclamation and rehabilitation of contaminated areas, and bio-economy.
Italy is among the leading countries in Europe in the green and circular economy, in particular in energy efficiency, waste recycling and resource productivity. For this reason, Ecomondo is an international reference point, where all leading companies of the sector can meet and discover trends, innovations and new technologies, and exchange views with sector professionals.
Philippe Mengal, Executive Director of BBI JU, will chair the panel on "Circular Bioeconomy: National Case Studies of Innovation Ecosystems" on 7 November. The OECD BNCT project “National Case Studies of Innovation Ecosystems” focuses on how to build value chains across the biobased industry and circular bioeconomy, bringing together and analyzes key country case studies. The panel will compare such cases in terms of approach, methodologies and impacts. After a short presentation of case work by the participating delegations, the panel will discuss common barriers, needs and opportunities, and the way to cooperate, interconnect and valorize their efforts.
On the same day Philippe Mengal will also give a presentation on "BBI JU's mission and support for the development of the bio-based industry sector in Europe" during the BBI EMBRACED workshop, to address future bio-based industry perspectives, main challenges and support offered by the BBI JU for the development of the bioeconomy in Europe, with a particular focus on bio-based products derived from municipal solid waste feedstock.
